“I might as well be that girl who sold hot cakes on the street corner in the morning. I am simply lucky to have been born in a prosperous country, such as Belgium, where children’s rights are a priority. A few years ago I was about to adopt a baby from the orphanage of Soeur Albertine. I’d never been so excited in my entire life. I was going to be a mom! I started the administrative procedure to make everything legal. During this period, the child fell ill and died shortly afterwards from a simple childhood disease that could be treated effortlessly in Belgium. After this difficult period, I thought for a long time about how I could help not one but more of these vulnerable children.”
